On Mar 19th 2020, Ministry of Ecology & Environment issued approval reply on Shenhua Ningxia Coal-Saudi Arabia Basic Industry Corp JV 700kt/a coal-to-olefin new material process demo project environment impact assessment report.
Located in coal chemical park of Ningxia Ningdong Energy Chemical Base, the project is taking raw coal as feed material to produce 2.10Mt/a MTO grade methanol and, through further processing, to obtain polymer grade ethylene and propylene, with final product stripes of 210kt/a low density polyethylene, 100kt/a ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), 35kt/a ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, 430kt/a polypropylene, as well as side streams of sulfur, ammonium sulfate, mixed C4/C5+ fractions etc. Total investment on the project is estimated CNY22.04bn, including 1.76bn or 8.0% of the total, on environment expenses.
