ASIACHEM Businesses
Olefins Feedstock Diversification Forum 2022

Background

In 2021, China's dependence on crude oil import is about 70%, and the equivalent imports of ethylene and propylene are still huge. According to the carbon peak program of the State Council, the oil refining capacity will not exceed 1 billion tons in 2025 and promote the lightweight of raw materials. Energy security, policies and markets highlight the importance of diversification of olefin raw materials.

Low-carbon, hydrogen-rich raw materials such as ethane cracking and PDH have become an important direction. ASIACHEM's statistics show that there are nearly 70 light hydrocarbon cracking and PDH projects under construction in China, with a production capacity of over 8 million tons of ethylene and over 30 million tons of propylene. In 2021, the two major ethane-to-ethylene projects of PetroChina Changqing and Tarim were successfully started; many PDH projects such as Satellite, Wanhua, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Donghua, Qixiang Tengda, Yanchang zhongran and Huayi are under planning or construction. In addition, crude oil to olefins, synthesis gas to olefins, a new generation of coal/methanol to olefins technologies, as well as new energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, new equipment, and new solutions are of great significance for industrial transformation and upgrading and helping to achieve the "Dual-carbon" goal.

Under the new situation, how will large-scale projects such as naphtha-to-olefins, CTO/MTO, PDH, and ethane cracking of state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, and multinational giants develop? How will new technologies such as crude oil to olefins, natural gas to olefins, syngas to olefins and the new generation of coal/methanol to olefins compete in the future?

Olefins Feedstock Diversification Forum 2022 will be held on March 16-17 in Lianyungang, China. The meeting will arrange visits to Xuwei New District and key enterprises, one of the seven national petrochemical bases.
