MEE Admitted Three Grand CTO Project for Audition! All Equipped with Green H2 Unit

ASIACHEM presided 2023 Power-to-X Technology Economy Seminar is to be held on Nov 29th in Suzhou. The conference would discuss the global Power-to-X technology & project developing trend, Chinese green power and green hydrogen processes, equipment & cost prospect,  ,基于Power-to-X process-based production of green methanol, green ammonia, green ethanol, green syngas, SNG/LNG, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), gasoline, diesel, olefins and aromatics, CO2 electrocatalytic reduction to syngas & high value-added product processes, Power-to-X serving automation, electro-gasification and digital technology & equipment etc.

 

On Oct 18th, MEE website published the construction project environment impact evaluation paperwork submission & admission in the period from Oct 7th to Oct 13th 2023. The admitted projects included SCCIG Yulin Chemistry Co Ltd 15Mt/a coal gradient clean & efficiency conversion demo project olefins/aromatics & downstream processing sections and Xinjiang Shandong Energy Chemical Co Ltd Zhundong Wucaiwan 800kt/a CTO project. 

 

On Oct 16th, MEE website published the construction project environment impact evaluation paperwork submission & admission in the period from Sep 25th to Oct 6th 2023. The admitted projects included Xinjiang Dongming Plastics Co Ltd 800kt/a CTO project.

 

SCCIG Yulin Chemistry Co Ltd 15000kt/a coal gradient conversion demo project olefins/aromatics & downstream processing sections

 

Main construction scope of the project would include coal thermal cracking, gasification, methanol to olefins, diesel hydrogenation, aromatics processing, degradable plastics, and battery  electrolyte fluid production etc, and the main process units are 13.5Mt/a thermal cracking (hydrogen presented cracking included), 5.6Mt/a /methanol, 1480kt/a MTO, 31500Nm3/h water-electrolysis to H2, 19Mt/a diesel hydrogenation, 1.5Mt/a reformer/aromatics complex, 700kt/a light hydrocarbon aromatization, 2.2Mt/a refined PTA, 2.4Mt/a polyester, 260kt/a polycarbonate, 300kt/a polypropylene (PP), 300kt/a polyethylene (FDPE), 400kt/a poly-acetic acid-ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), 50kt/a polyolefin elastomer (POE), 1Mt/a dimethyl carbonate (DMC), 220kt/a super absorbent polymer, 300kt/a polybutylene terephthalate adipate (PBAT), 67.8kt/a bio-degradable material (PBS), 30kt/a PTMEG (tetrahydrofuran homo-polyether), 210kt/a ethyl carbonate (EC), 80kt/a poly-3-hydroxy propionic acid (PPL), 330kt/a polyether polyol, 700kt/a propylene oxide, 150kt/a ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC), 600kt/a diethyl carbonate (DEC), 600kt/a polypropylene carbonate (PPC) etc, as well as attached utility and auxiliary facilities, to output more than 30 products, mainly resin materials, chemical new materials, degradable resin, battery electrolyte fluid etc, in the total quantity of 87.556Mt/a, including 83.172Mt/a as main products. Total investment on the project is estimated of CNY175.973bn.

 

Main part of the project is to be configured with 37 process units, including a 31,500Nm3/h water-electrolysis to hydrogen unit based on ALK H2 process, consisting mainly of H2 generation, H2 purification, and H2 compression sections.

 

Xinjiang Shandong Energy Chemical Co Ltd Zhundong Wucaiwan 800kt/a CTO project

 

The project is to use the coal resource in Zhundong Wucaiwan mine area, with coal as raw material and, through the main process sections of gasification, reforming, rectisol wash, methanol synthesis, methanol to olefins (olefin separation included), polyethylene, polypropylene etc, to produce 800kt/a PE/PP products (nameplate capacity). 

 

The project’s water-electrolysis to H2 unit would apply ALK process designed of a capacity to produce 12,000Nm3/h hydrogen and 6,000Nm3/h oxygen. The electrolysis unit would consist of  12 electrolysis tubs each of 1000Nm3/h H2 capacity, along with hydrogen and oxygen compressors and buffering storage tank systems. By-produced hydrogen from the methanol unit of the project and hydrogen generated from water-electrolysis unit both would feed to MTO, PP and sulfur recovery units as raw material. 

 

Xinjiang Dongming Plastics Co Ltd 800kt/a CTO project

 

Main body of the project is to build 2.20Mt/a coal-base syngas to methanol unit (consisting of 5 subunits), 800kt/a methanol to olefins unit, 400kt/a polyethylene (HDPE) unit and 500kt/a polypropylene (PP)unit, 20kt/a water-electrolysis to H2 unit and an ASU of 960,000Nm3/h air throughput.

 

The project is in charge to take two energy conservation/carbon reduction process demoes, namely ”20000Nm3/h water electrolysis to H2 unitand dry coal powder gas flow bed HP gasification + semi waste boiler process flow”, to realize high energy efficiency and reduction of carbon emission through deep coupling of ”green hydrogen” with modern coal chemical processes. The water-electrolysis to H2 unit is designed of 20,000Nm3/h hydrogen and 10,000Nm3/h oxygen capacity. The hydrogen stream is to merge with cleaned syngas before entry of methanol synthesis to keep original methanol capacity unchanged. The generated oxygen would enter gasification unit to substitute part of oxygen supplied by ASU, to reduce unit methanol production CO2 emission.
