CNY5.6bn! SEC to Build Its First Commercial Green Methanol Project

2024-04-02

On Mar 30th, the first commercial size green methanol project in China, Shanghai Electric Taonan City wind power coupled biomass to green methanol integration demo project inauguration ceremony was held in West Jilin (Taonan) green energy chemical industrial park.

The project is based on the abundant wind and biomass energy renewable resources available in Taonan, to build the “green new energy + green chemicalindustry chain project. The project is estimated of CNY5.6bn capital investment, planned to construct 250kt/a wind power coupled biomass to green methanol integrated capacity, including 680MW new energy-based power generation mainly for self-use and a minor part sending to public grid. The final capacity should be furnished in two phases, phase I to construct 50kt/a green methanol capacity, scheduled to output first batch of methanol in 2025 and realize 250kt/a full capacity in 2027.

As an advanced energy equipment manufacture enterprise in China, Shanghai Electric has accumulated thick technical expertise in green energy and sustainable development fields. SEC developed wind power equipment, PV equipment, water electrolysis to hydrogen equipment, carbon capture, biomass gasification, methanol synthesis and green methanol production whole chain core processes, equipment design and manufacture capability etc, all would be applied in the project. Worthy of notice is that the process routes & applicable main equipment used in the project have realized the first time industrial application both in China and abroad.

2024 Marine-Use Green Methanol & Green Ammonia Fuel Forum is to be held on May 9th in Hangzhou. The conference would explore and discuss global water transportation industry decarbonation trend & green methanol/green ammonia fuel demand, green methanol & green ammonia international standards & certification systems, marine-use green methanol and green ammonia fuel transport, warehouse storage & refueling process flow, advanced equipment and working safety standard, marine-se green methanol and green ammonia fueled engine technology status & challenges, green methanol and green ammonia production processes, demo projects and supplying capacity prospect etc.
