Jun 20, 2016, MIIT publicized 'Vehicle Power Battery Industry Standard Conditions' (4th Batch) enterprise directory, including 31 monomer enterprises and 1 system enterprise. The details please see the attached list. Samsung SDI, LG Chemical etc. Japan and Korea battery magnates did not on the list.
Public report shows that, Shen Bin, Assistant Chief Engineer of China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Technical Economy Advisory Department, reveals that, 'I can tell everyone very clearly, we received access applications from Samsung, LG etc. many companies in the first four batches, and the country doesn't deal with foreign enterprises, joint venture enterprises in different ways. However, they indeed didn't pass - First, they all haven't passed TS16949 Attestation; Secondly, especially foreign enterprises, they mainly do manufacture in China, so (when hand in) they are lack of materials on detailed R&D process management and control aspect.' He believes that after foreign enterprises, joint venture enterprises solve these problems, they will certainly pass the attestation.
In fact, from manufacturing engineering point of view, on battery manufacturing equipment level, administrative capability, process control capability etc. aspects, Japan and Korea enterprises are indeed better than China enterprises. Base on technology level and manufacturing process of Samsung, LG, it is not difficult for their power battery projects to pass new national standard test, and they will enter 'Vehicle Power Battery Industry Standard Conditions' sooner or later. Public information shows that, staff of Samsung Marketing Department states that, Samsung will prepare for declaration work of 'Vehicle Power Battery Industry Standard Conditions' (5th Batch) enterprise directory. Barring accident, LG is doing the same preparation work, and still, it is expected to enter 'Vehicle Power Battery Industry Standard Conditions' enterprise directory.
ASIACHEM believes that, domestic battery enterprises are still facing huge challenges. China LIB industry because of over investment, power battery enterprises are too much on quantity, but the product qualities are uneven. It needs to increase competitiveness as soon as possible to answer the competition in the future.
