129GW! Inventory of HJT cell expansion projects in 2022: Huasun, Longi, Golden Glass, Risen, Mingyang Smart, Akcome, CR Power; equipment manufacturers usher in huge market opportunities

ASIACHEM "China Heterojunction Cell Project Database" shows that since 2022, the newly constructed and planned HJT cell capacity in China has reached 109.2GW, bringing huge market opportunities for technology and equipment suppliers.

 

Solar cells are about to enter the era of 25%+ mass production efficiency. TOPCon and HJT are considered to be the most promising next-generation cell technologies. As a leading research institution in the PV industry, ASIACHEM has sorted out the latest progress of China's HJT cell construction and planned expansion projects in 2022 as follows. (Note: The completed projects are not within the scope of this article. The 2022 expansion projects counted in this article may not necessarily be put into production in 2022.)

 

Huasun: newly created 5GW+4.8GW+5GW

 

On January 25th 2022, Huasun 5GW HJT cell and module project with a total investment of 5.7 billion yuan settled in Xishan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Wuxi City. It is reported that Huasun plans to set up a HJT PV industrial park, which includes an advanced PV research institute, a bifacial microcrystalline HJT cell factory and a module factory, as well as a supporting silicon rod cutting factory.

 

On April 29th 2022, the tender for the civil construction of the 2.4GW high-efficiency HJT factory in the first phase of the Huasun Phase III 4.8GW bifacial microcrystalline HJT smart factory project has been officially launched, and construction started on May 26th. The 4.8GW project will complete the move-in and commissioning of all equipment in two phases from Q1-Q3 in 2023.

 

In May 2022, Huasun formally signed a cooperation agreement with the Dali State Government and Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd., and will launch a 5GW bifacial microcrystalline high-efficiency HJT cell and module project in the Dali Economic and Technological Development Zone. The first phase of the project plans to build a 2.5GW high-efficiency cell and module production capacity.

 

Golden Glass: newly created 4.8GW

 

On June 18th 2022, Golden Glass announced that it plans to invest in the construction of a 4.8GW high-efficiency HJT cell and module project. The follow-up R&D, commissioning and production base of the project are all located in Jiuquan, Gansu. The investment of the project is 4.191 billion yuan, the construction period is 18 months, which is divided into two phases. On June 23rd, Golden Glass and Maxwell signed the "High-efficiency HJT Solar Cell Equipment and Technology Cooperation Agreement".

 

Risen: newly created 15GW

 

On January 28th 2022, Risen issued an announcement that the company and the Management Committee of Ningbo Southern Binhai Economic and Technological Development Zone signed the "Annual Production of 15GW N-type Ultra-low Carbon High Efficiency HJT Cells and 15GW High Efficiency Solar Module Project Investment Cooperation Agreement", the total investment of the project is 15.2 billion yuan, and it will be constructed in two phases, with a total development and construction period of 30 months.

 

Haitai Solar: newly created 5GW

 

On February 28th 2022, Haitai HJT cell and module project started. The project has a total investment of 5 billion yuan, and plans to build a 5GW HJT cell and 5GW module project in two phases.

 

Talesun Solar: newly created 5GW

 

On March 22th 2022, Zhongli Group announced that Talesun will jointly establish "Hebei Zhongli Talesun New Energy Technology Co., Ltd." with Zhongwei New Energy, and plans to build a 5GW HJT cell and module manufacturing projects in Fuping within 5 years with a total investment of about 5 billion yuan.

 

Longi: newly created 1.2GW

 

On April 14th 2022, Longi Xixian New Branch Company announced the first information announcement of public participation in the environmental impact assessment of the first phase of the pilot project of Longi Central Research Institute. The announcement shows that the project uses laser cutting machines, texturing cleaning machines, PECVD, PVD, screen printing machines and other equipment for pilot testing and R&D of new high-efficiency cells. The new high-efficiency cell project is expected to produce 1.2GW.

 

 

Mingyang Smart: newly created 5GW

 

In February 2022, Mingyang Smart said that the company's HJT cell project equipment procurement has been completed, and construction has now begun in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, and the HJT module project has now begun construction in Xinyang City, Henan Province, and everything is progressing. It is expected to be put into production in 2022. On November 30th 2021, the Mingyang Smart 5GW HJT Cell Project kicked off the groundbreaking ceremony. The project invested 5 billion yuan, of which the first phase has a planned production capacity of 2.5GW. The average conversion efficiency is expected to be above 24.5% after production.

 

Akcome: New 8GW+6GW+1.8GW

 

On January 5th 2022, Akcome 8GW HJT cell settled in Ruian. The planned construction period is 3 years, and the total investment of the project is 11.2 billion yuan. Among them, 4GW PV cells and modules will be constructed in the first phase; 4GW PV cells and modules will be constructed in the second phase.

 

On May 28th 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Akcome 6GW high-efficiency cell project was held in Ganzhou. Akcome has built 1.2GW of high-efficiency modules + 1.2GW of high-efficiency cells + 6GW of HJT cells at its Nankang base. Among them, 1.2GW high-efficiency modules and 1.2GW high-efficiency cells have been fully put into production. The 6GW HJT cell project plans to purchase HJT cell equipment to produce 210 HJT cells with a conversion efficiency of over 24.5%.

 

On July 5th 2022, Akcome announced that Huzhou Akcome and Maxwell signed the "Equipment Purchase Contract". Huzhou Akcome purchased two 210 half-cell HJT production line equipment with its own funds. The production capacity of each production line exceeds 600MW, and two new production lines with a total capacity of 1.2GW will be added. Huzhou Akcome has purchased three production lines with a capacity of more than 1.8GW within 12 months. The main equipment has been installed and commissioned in June 2022.

 

CR Power: newly created 5GW

 

On May 24th 2022, CR Power released the general contracting information for the standard plant supporting the 12GW high-efficiency HJT solar cell and module project. According to the plan, the project will build 24*500MW solar cell production equipment lines and 24*500MW cell module packaging production lines and other main projects, as well as supporting warehousing and other projects. In August 2021, CR Power 12GW high-efficiency HJT solar cell and module manufacturing project was launched in Zhoushan, with a total investment of 11 billion yuan. According to the plan, after the investment project is put into production, the HJT cells and modules will be up to 12GW.

 

LDK: newly created 600MW

 

On June 1st 2022, Haiyuan Composites announced that the company will invest in the construction of 600MW HJT high-efficiency HJT cell production in the National High-tech Development Zone of Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. The project cycle is 18 months, and the construction investment is 354.8 million yuan.

 

Boamax: newly created 2GW

 

On May 26th 2022, Boamax announced that the company intends to sign an investment contract with the Huaiyuan County Government of Bengbu City, Anhui Province to build a new energy high-end intelligent manufacturing project. The project construction content is a 2GW PV cell and module project. In July 2022, Boamax stated on the interactive platform that the HJT equipment developed and produced by the company will be applied to the 2GW HJT cell project, and detailed process demonstration and scheme design will be carried out according to the project situation.

 

Shuifa: newly created 5GW

 

On April 21st 2022, Shuifa and Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone held an online signing ceremony for 5GW HJT cells and supporting projects. The first phase of the project plans to invest 2 billion yuan.

 

Guosheng Energy: newly created 5GW

 

In May 2022, Guosheng high-efficiency HJT cell and module projects have begun construction. The project has a total investment of 5 billion yuan and an annual investment of 1.2 billion yuan. It will build a production line with an annual output of 5GW HJT cells and 5GW large-scale modules, which will be implemented in three stages. Among them, the first phase will build 1GW HJT cells and 1GW module production.

 

Huayao PV: newly created 10GW

 

On June 30th 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Huayao PV 10GW HJT cell and module project with a total investment of 6.5 billion yuan was held.

 

Guorun Energy: newly created 10GW

 

On June 30th 2022, Guorun Energy 3GW HJT cell intelligent manufacturing industry project started in Shangyi County Industrial Park, Zhangjiakou City. It is reported that the project plans to invest a total of 1.8 billion yuan to build a new HJT cell manufacturing plant and to build an intelligent production workshop.

 

Taoistic Solar: newly created 5GW

 

On July 25th 2022, the signing ceremony of Xuzhou Konggang Taoistic Solar Cell Production Project was held. The total investment of the project is 5.5 billion yuan, of which 5GW TOPCon cells will be constructed in the first phase with a construction period of two years, and the second phase will be constructed with 5GW HJT cells.

 

Golden Solar: newly created 20GW

 

In July 2022, Golden Solar announced that the company recently signed a strategic investment cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Nan'an City, Fujian Province, to cooperate in a 20 GW second-generation HJT large-scale mass production project.

 

According to the announcement, after the initial plan, the state-owned investment institutions will account for less than 49% of the equity of the project company after the capital increase, and the company's indirect wholly-owned subsidiary Golden Solar (Quanzhou) will account for more than 51% of the equity of the project company. After the two parties formally reach the cooperation intention of a specific project, they should sign a separate project investment agreement, which will specify the total amount of project investment and the specific plan for project implementation.
