China First Low-pressure Alloy Hydrogen Storage Cold Chain Logistics Demonstration Vehicle Offs Assembly Line

Apr 7, 2020, 4.5t low-pressure alloy hydrogen storage hydrogen fuel cell cold chain demonstration vehicle, which co-developed by Guangdong Shenzhen Up-Power Tech and Beijing General Research Institute of Nonferrous Metal, offed assembly line in Guangdong Zhuhai Guangtong Vehicle Manufacturing.

 

Information shows that, the demonstration vehicle uses low-pressure allow hydrogen storage system, replacing high-pressure hydrogen storage cylinders. Volume of alloy hydrogen storage device is only 1/3 of volume of high pressure hydrogen cylinder with the same hydrogen storage capacity, hydrogen storage system working pressure is lower than 5MPa and safety is higher. Meanwhile, it requirement to hydrogen refueling pressure of HRS decreases to below 20MPa, construction difficulties and cost of HRS are all greatly decrease.

 

Demonstration vehicle hydrogen fuel cell system power is 30kW, rated hydrogen storage capacity is 8.4kg. Vehicle left Zhuhai Guangtong under fill-up condition, and temperature of the whole refrigerated chamber was kept at 5 (lowest refrigeration can reach -25), and when reaching Shenzhen Up-Power after driving 220km, hydrogen remained 27%. Vehicle hydrogen consumption is converted to less than 2.8kg/100km.

 

Shenzhen Up-Power finished necessary performance tests for the demonstration vehicle and will cooperate with domestic well-known enterprises to carry out trial use under actual conditions. Meanwhile, together with entire-vehicle factory, Shenzhen Up-Power will apply for alloy hydrogen storage hydrogen FCV access exemption application rely on process of <Road Motor Vehicles Products Access New Technology, New Technique and New Materials Application Evaluation Methods> which MIIT is about to release, and strives for receiving vehicle announcement in H2, 2020.

 

ASIACHEM <China Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Monthly Report> information shows that, before, in Jul 2019, world first bus that carries with low-pressure alloy hydrogen storage system displayed in Liaoning Huludao. Meanwhile, world first low-pressure HRS located in Huludao Xingcheng Economic and Development Zone has also finished construction and put into popularization and demonstration.

 

Apr 2019, Shenzhen Up-Power Tech Co. Ltd. successfully developed China first low-pressure hydrogen storage fuel cell bus. The bus was manufactured by Foshan Feichi Automobile Manufacturing Co. Ltd., fuel cell system uses hydrogen storage alloy way, which has merits as below:

 

1. Working pressure is only 5MPa and hydrogen refueling pressure is 10MPa, operation is convenient and fast, and overall safety performance largely increases

 

2. Low hydrogen refueling station device investment and less land occupation. It can also operation by slightly transform current existed oil-fueled stations and CNG -fueled stations. Early stage construction investment and afterwards operation cost are significantly decreased

 

3. High hydrogen storage density, fast hydrogen refueling progress, hydrogen refueling amount is not limited by device capacity and operating efficiency is effectively increase

 

4. Product manufacture from raw materials to production fully realizes localization and not be influenced by external factors, alloy materials can be recycled and reused

 

It is introduced by the company that, some metals in nature have very strong hydrogen capture ability, under certain of temperature and quite low pressure, they can absorb large amounts of hydrogen, react and generate metal hybrids, meanwhile, heat release; after, heat these metal hybrids, they will resolve and release hydrogen storage in them. These metals are called hydrogen storage alloy. Common used hydrogen storage alloys include Ti-Mn system, La-Ni system, Ti-Fe system and Mg system etc. Among, materials suit for vehicles mainly are Ti-Mn system, which also is AB2 material.

 

Shenzhen Up-Power low-pressure solid alloy AB2 hydrogen storage device unit, 5MPa, effective hydrogen storage capacity is 8.4kg and volume is 376.9L.
